TankSure®
TankSure® is a preventive oil tank testing and warranty program designed to identify hidden tank issues before they lead to leaks or failures
Schedule a Tank InspectionA tank can look perfectly fine on the outside but could be slowly thinning from the inside leading to a potential leak or tank failure.
TankSure® helps you stay ahead of that risk by identifying issues you can’t see and providing a clearer picture of your tank’s condition before it becomes an emergency.
DOC performs ultrasonic oil tank inspections during routine tune-ups and includes them as part of our boiler and furnace service plans. TankSure® combines an inspection with a quick ultrasonic test on above-ground residential and commercial fuel oil tanks to measure thickness and detect internal corrosion.
The test takes about ten minutes and is typically completed during an annual tune-up by DOC’s trained technicians. Based on the results, it’s protected with a $1,500 proactive tank replacement warranty.
How to get started
If you want TankSure® included as part of long-term coverage, enroll in a DOC boiler or furnace Service Protection Plan where TankSure® inspections are included. Or, call to schedule your annual heating system tune up where the inspection will be completed at the time of the tune up.
If you are unsure which option is best, contact your local DOC Comfort Center and we will help you choose the right option.
Schedule an Annual CleaningWhy Have a TankSure® Inspection?
A leaking oil tank can quickly become a serious safety and environmental hazard. Even a small leak has the potential to contaminate groundwater and impact nearby drinking water sources, including private wells. If a leak occurs inside your home, it can also damage floors, walls, and personal belongings while creating significant indoor air quality concerns and potential health risks.
Schedule an Annual CleaningAs a tank owner, you are legally responsible for maintaining your tank and addressing any leaks or spills.
Cleanup and repair costs can be substantial—and in many cases, may not be fully covered by homeowners insurance. TankSure® helps reduce that risk by identifying potential problems early, giving you the opportunity to take action before a minor issue becomes a major expense.
A DOC tank inspection can:
- Detects Hidden Corrosion – Identifies internal tank wear before it causes a leak.
- Protects Your Home – Helps prevent oil spills, property damage, and environmental risks.
- Prevents Costly Repairs – Catches issues early to reduce cleanup and replacement expenses.
- Provides Added Protection – Qualifying tanks receive a $1,500 replacement warranty

Oil Tank Insurance FAQs
TankSure® is a preventive oil tank testing and warranty program designed to identify hidden tank issues before they lead to leaks or failures.Based on the results, the program helps determine whether a tank is still in good condition. If it qualifies, it’s backed by a limited warranty that provides financial protection toward replacement if the tank fails. If it doesn’t qualify, the program typically offers a credit toward replacing the tank proactively.
An ultrasonic test measures the thickness of the metal tank and helps detect corrosion that can happen on the inside where you cannot see it. It provides a clearer picture of tank condition than a visual inspection alone.
The ultrasonic portion of the test takes about ten minutes and is typically performed during an annual heating system tune-up by a certified DOC service technician.
Many tanks corrode from the inside. From the outside, a tank may look normal, but internally the metal can wear thin over time. That thinning is what can lead to leaks, especially as the tank ages.

Yes. TankSure® inspections are included in a DOC boiler and/or furnace Service Protection Plan. This is one way customers add predictability and protection to their heating setup.
If your tank qualifies, it is protected with a $1,500 proactive tank replacement warranty. DOC will notify you after the inspection about your qualification status and next steps.
If your tank does not qualify, you receive a $200 oil tank replacement credit. DOC can also advise you on options for replacement or risk reduction based on what the inspection shows.
Common warning signs include a strong fuel odor, staining or wet spots around the tank or lines, rust, pitting, bulging, or unexplained performance issues with your heating system. Even without visible signs, internal corrosion can still be present, which is why testing matters.

Yes. Tank owners have a legal responsibility to maintain their oil tank and to clean up spills or leaks that occur. Owners are also responsible for reporting leaks or spills that could cause property damage or health, safety, or environmental problems.
Coverage varies by policy and situation, and some costs may not be fully covered. Because cleanup can be expensive, many homeowners choose TankSure® to reduce risk and get clearer insight into tank condition.
TankSure® coverage may be transferable to a new homeowner if you sell your home. DOC can confirm current terms and help explain what transfers and what does not.
TankSure® notes that discounts on homeowners insurance premiums may be offered by certain insurers. If you want to explore this, ask your insurance provider and keep any documentation DOC provides after your inspection.
Start by scheduling an annual heating system tune-up with DOC and ask about TankSure® at the same time, or enroll in a DOC boiler or furnace Service Protection Plan where TankSure® inspections are included.
